Former MP Kabando wa Kabando has issued a blunt verdict on the fiercely contested Ol Kalou by-election, declaring that no amount of last-minute campaigning by President William Ruto's team can salvage the constituency for the ruling UDA party.
"In Ol Kalou, no matter what Ruto and his team do, Ol Kalou is gone," Kabando declared, as campaigns intensify ahead of next week's high-stakes mini-poll.
The remarks come amid mounting allegations of lavish campaign spending in the constituency, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claiming that Ruto's administration has poured over Sh1 billion into Ol Kalou, flooding the area with cash and drawing job seekers and traders from as far as Nakuru and Nyahururu.
Kabando further accused the Interior CS of focusing on political battles at the expense of his constitutional mandate, arguing that Kenyans expect the ministry to prioritize security and public safety.
He also dismissed claims that Gachagua was the government's principal political opponent, asserting instead that ordinary Kenyans dissatisfied with the current administration posed the biggest political challenge.
The former lawmaker also alleged that attempts to politically isolate the Mt Kenya region had failed, saying the region remained united despite sustained political pressure.
He referenced the growing influence of the "Wamunyoro" political movement, maintaining that it could not be weakened through intimidation or political attacks.
The exchange adds to the escalating war of words between Kenya Kwanza leaders and politicians aligned with Gachagua.
With political temperatures steadily rising, such public confrontations are expected to intensify as leaders position themselves and their allies ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
