Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has launched a blistering attack on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of being overly preoccupied with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua instead of addressing the country's security challenges.
In a strongly worded social media post, Kabando claimed Murkomen's repeated criticism of Gachagua reflected growing anxiety within President William Ruto's administration.
"Murkomen, you are the most useless security minister our motherland Kenya has ever had! Your daily obsession with RiggyG shows how scared your master Ruto is, ....the countdown to Exit Ikulu #RutoMustGo is on! Nobody and nothing whatsoever can stop the WANTAM tide. Kenya shall not descend to Ruto's militia mayhem. " he posted on X.
He has previously stated that he intends to concentrate on governance before engaging fully in party politics.
Despite this, sections of Kenyans on social media have interpreted the governor's recent messaging as a possible sign that he could be edging closer to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ahead of the next election.
Some online discussions have even suggested that Wamatangi could seek re-election on a DCP ticket, although he has not publicly confirmed such plans.
The speculation has fueled wider conversations about the political future of leaders elected under President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA), particularly in the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region, where political loyalties continue to evolve.
Political observers note that Wamatangi remains one of the region's influential governors, making any potential shift in allegiance significant for both the ruling coalition and the opposition as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum.
However, as of now, there is no official confirmation that Wamatangi has resigned from UDA or formally joined DCP.
The current discussion is largely driven by public interpretation of his recent remarks and ongoing political speculation.
Should the governor eventually announce a change of political affiliation, it would likely become one of the most closely watched developments in Kenya's evolving 2027 political landscape. Until then, claims that he is definitely heading to Gachagua's camp remain unconfirmed.
