Hon. Caleb Amisi, the Member of Parliament for Saboti, has ignited a fierce online debate after publicly distancing himself from political camps, making a bold promise to call out leaders from his own party if they are in the wrong.
In a statement that has since gone viral, the ODM legislator took a firm, independent stance amidst the ongoing political tension, explicitly naming Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga as someone he would not spare from criticism.
His declaration is being seen as a direct challenge to the culture of blind party loyalty.
The ODM Member of Parliament made his position crystal clear in a tweet posted on Thursday morning.
He wrote, "Guys I dont belong to those camps you try to put me in, If Kahiga is wrong I will call him out, if Wanga is wrong I will equally call her out."
He insisted that this brand of impartial, issue-based leadership is what the country desperately needs to move forward. Hon.
Amisi further included in his powerful message by stating, "Changing Kenya will require sobriety not emotions. Kenya needs a renaissance!"
Hon. Caleb Amisi's declaration was immediately met with a storm of reactions from the Kenyan public, with opinions sharply divided.
Critics questioned his motives and loyalty, with one user asking why he felt the need to explain himself ("Mbona unajiexplain").
Another user, Rich Starr, challenged his ability to bring change while remaining in his party, asking, "Will that renaissance you speak off happen while you are still in ODM??" This skepticism highlights the public's deep-seated distrust of political rhetoric versus action.
The Saboti legislator’s call for sobriety, however, also received a wave of strong support from Kenyans who are tired of divisive politics.
Many praised him for his courage and clear-headed approach.
One citizen, Joe Walela, proudly commented, "My member of parliament talking sense...keep going mhesh."
Another supporter echoed this sentiment, stating, "I support you in this. Kenya needs honest leaders and citizens as well."
