A wave of shock and grief has swept through Nanyuki after a 20-year-old woman was found dead in a local lodging following a meeting with her former husband, with police now pursuing the main suspect linked to the incident.
The victim, identified as Risper Faith, is reported to have left her home in the afternoon after asking her father for a small transport fare to go to town.
Her father said she called him while he was at work and requested 200 shillings, after which she left.
By evening, she had not returned home, which raised concern as she was known to keep time. Repeated attempts to reach her by phone were unsuccessful, deepening the family’s worry.
The following day, her father searched for her in several places she frequently visited, including a fast food outlet at a local mall, but there was no trace of her.
He later reported the matter to police after failing to locate her.
On his way to the police station, he checked at a hospital and mortuary for missing persons. It was there that he was asked to describe his daughter.
After mentioning her distinctive brown and white braided hairstyle, he was informed that an unidentified body matching her description had been received.
Investigations indicate that Risper had checked into a lodging in Nanyuki town known as '1950 Lodging' alongside her ex-husband, a 21-year-old man identified as Elvis Ndegwa.
Reports suggest the two had agreed to meet and spend time together.
The lodging manager reportedly became suspicious after the pair could not be seen for several hours.
On checking the room, he discovered the woman had died.
Authorities later established that the facility had no CCTV cameras and that no formal registration or payment had been recorded for the couple’s stay.
The man who was with her is said to have fled immediately after the incident and remains at large as detectives continue investigations.
Family members also revealed that the deceased had previously filed an assault complaint against the suspect, although she later withdrew the case earlier this year.
Her death has sparked outrage among residents and online users, with growing calls for justice and renewed concern over rising cases of violence against women in the region.
