Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has appealed to his supporters to remain calm and maintain peace as the High Court prepares to deliver its highly anticipated ruling on his impeachment case.
Speaking ahead of the judgment, which is set to be delivered on Monday at 11:00 a.m., Gachagua said he was ready to abide by the court’s decision while reiterating his belief that the process leading to his removal from office was unconstitutional.
He urged his supporters across the country to respect the rule of law and avoid any actions that could undermine peace and stability regardless of the outcome.
At the center of the case is the legality of Gachagua’s impeachment by the National Assembly and the Senate in October 2024.
His legal team has challenged the process on 18 grounds, arguing that there were procedural irregularities, inadequate public participation, and violations of his right to a fair hearing.
The lawyers have also cited concerns that parts of the impeachment proceedings took place while he was reportedly hospitalized.
Gachagua is seeking a court declaration that the impeachment was unlawful and unconstitutional.
He is also pursuing compensation, including salaries, allowances, and benefits he would have earned had he remained in office for the rest of his term.
The judgment is expected to have significant political and legal consequences, with observers closely watching its potential impact on Gachagua’s future political ambitions, including a possible bid in the 2027 presidential election.
