A fresh political realignment is taking shape in the Mount Kenya region after a group of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) supporters from Maai Mahiu Ward in Nakuru County defected to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The defectors were formally welcomed into the DCP by Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara, who announced the development on social media. She described the move as part of efforts to strengthen the party's grassroots network in the region.
The defections come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election, with Mount Kenya emerging as a key battleground amid shifting alliances and growing competition for grassroots support.
Kihara said the new members had previously supported UDA but had now chosen to join the DCP, signalling what supporters view as growing momentum for Gachagua's political movement.
