“After Losing Five Businesses In The CBD Fuel Protests I Became Hopeless, Broke And Confused Until One Conversation Completely Turned My Life Around” – Nairobi Trader Narrates

 

For years, Peter Mwangi believed hard work alone was enough to secure a good future for his family. 

The 42-year-old Nairobi businessman had built five small businesses in the city centre, including a spare parts shop, a food kiosk, a mobile accessories stall, and two small wholesale stores. 

Life had finally started making sense for him after years of struggle. However, everything changed overnight during the chaotic fuel protests that rocked Nairobi’s CBD.

Peter recalls the heartbreaking moment he walked into the city the morning after the demonstrations only to find his dreams shattered. 

Windows had been smashed, goods looted, and some of his stalls burnt beyond recognition. The losses were unbearable.

“I felt like my life had ended. I had taken loans to build those businesses, and suddenly everything was gone. I buried five businesses in one day,” Peter painfully recalled.
