Hidden Passengers and Missing Details: Why Opposition Says Jirongo Crash Story Doesn't Add Up

Pressure is mounting on President William Ruto following the mysterious death of former Lugari MP and businessman Cyrus Jirongo with the United Opposition demanding full disclosure on the circumstances surrounding the fatal road crash.

The opposition leaders insist that the official explanation provided so far leaves critical gaps and raises more questions than answers.

Speaking after visiting Jirongo’s family opposition figures led by Democracy for the Citizens Party deputy leader Cleophas Malalah expressed concern over what they termed as a rushed and opaque investigation.

They questioned the credibility of preliminary police reports arguing that inconsistencies in details such as vehicle registration and the lack of information about other passengers involved in the crash have fueled public suspicion.

Jirongo reportedly died following a collision between his vehicle and a passenger bus along the Nakuru–Nairobi highway.

However the opposition claims authorities have failed to clearly identify the occupants of the bus or explain how the accident unfolded despite the incident occurring on a major highway with traffic surveillance and witnesses.

The leaders accused investigative agencies of withholding information and called on President Ruto to personally intervene to ensure an independent, transparent and thorough probe.

They warned that failure to address the concerns could erode public trust in state institutions and deepen political tensions.

As preparations for Jirongo’s burial continue the opposition insists that answers must come before the late politician is laid to rest.

For them, the case goes beyond one tragic death and speaks to broader issues of accountability, justice and the safety of citizens.

With public interest growing and political stakes rising, all eyes are now on the government to clarify the circumstances surrounding Cyrus Jirongo’s death and restore confidence in the investigative process.
