Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a major restructuring of Nairobi County in a move aimed at improving government service delivery to residents.
In a gazette notice dated Thursday, November 13, 2025, the CS introduced three new sub-regions — Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West Service Delivery Coordination Units.

Murkomen said the new structure was necessary due to the city’s rapidly growing population, which has now surpassed five million people.
To lead the newly created units, Murkomen appointed Rose Wanjiru Chege to head Nairobi West, Patrick Simiyu Werre for Nairobi East, and Simon Odhiambo Osumba for Nairobi North. The appointments take effect immediately.
During the announcement, Murkomen explained that the changes were part of the government’s ongoing efforts to decentralize services and enhance efficiency within the National Government Administration.

The officers promoted include Joseph Mwangi Wamuti (Tana River), Linda Adhiambo Okola (Taita Taveta), David Ntawuasa Saruni (West Pokot), Michael Yator (Kajiado), Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru (Kericho), and Peter Mwangi Maina (Vihiga).
Murkomen noted that some serving County Commissioners had been transferred to new stations, with their redeployments based on their experience and performance.

He added that the government’s decision was also influenced by the feedback gathered during recent “Jukwaa la Usalama” public forums, which highlighted concerns about security and service delivery.
