Twist: Police Link Dr Mutiso's Murder to Death of Lawyer Shot Dead in Nairobi, More Details Emerge

Fresh details have emerged in the murder of renowned clinical psychologist and mental health researcher Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso after detectives arrested two suspects believed to have crucial information about the killing.

The suspects, a mother and her son, were taken into custody on Thursday for questioning. Detectives believe they may hold crucial information on how and why Dr Mutiso was targeted.

Dr. Mutiso was gunned down on Wednesday morning while travelling in a taxi to her family's medical facility and office near Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi. According to police, the attackers executed the mission with precision.

A four-wheel-drive vehicle reportedly blocked the taxi before two armed men riding on a motorcycle opened fire at close range. The psychologist suffered severe gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Early findings indicate the attackers had followed her from her home near the Junction area in Nairobi's Kilimani neighbourhood before carrying out the deadly ambush.

Investigators are probing whether the killing is linked to a family dispute over property. Reports indicate the dispute may have played a role in the attack.

Detectives are also linking the murder to the unresolved killing of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead along Magadi Road on September 9, 2025.

No arrests have been made in that case, but police believe solving Dr. Mutiso's murder could provide important clues that may help uncover those behind Mbobu's death, which has remained unsolved for months.

Authorities have assured the public that every lead is being followed to identify everyone involved and establish the true motive behind the murder.
