Kirabo, whose case became one of the most remarkable in the hospital's history, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, bringing to an end a long and emotional medical journey that touched the hearts of doctors, nurses, support staff, and many members of the public.
According to the hospital, Kirabo was admitted to the ICU in 2020 after being brought in unconscious while suffering from a rare medical condition. Although details of her illness were not publicly disclosed, her condition required constant intensive care and close monitoring around the clock.
Over time, she regained consciousness and became familiar with the medical staff who cared for her every day. What began as a routine medical case gradually developed into a unique relationship, with hospital workers describing her as more than just a patient.
In a heartfelt tribute shared after her passing, Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital said Kirabo had become part of their family during her six-year stay, making her death especially painful for everyone who had walked alongside her throughout the difficult journey.
