The suspect, who serves as the Head of the Department of History and International Studies at Northwest University, formerly known as Yusuf Maitama Sule University in Kano, Nigeria, was reportedly apprehended after the student's husband organised a sting operation to expose the alleged misconduct.

According to reports, the female student had completed her academic project but was unable to graduate because the lecturer allegedly refused to approve or sign off on her work unless she agreed to engage in a sexual relationship with him.

The alleged ordeal lasted for two years, leaving the student frustrated and unable to complete her studies. During that period, she reportedly continued to reject the lecturer's advances despite the impact the delay had on her academic progress.
