Mount Kenya Witnesses Rising Push for Mass Departure from Ruto's UDA Party Ahead of 2027 Election

President William Ruto continues to face a challenging political environment as his administration navigates growing public scrutiny and shifting political dynamics. 

Since assuming office as Kenya's fifth president, his leadership has been marked by both achievements and significant challenges.

In recent months, demonstrations have been held in different parts of the country, with many protesters calling on the government to reconsider some of its policies and governance decisions. 

A large number of the protests have been driven by members of Generation Z, who have become increasingly vocal on national issues.

At the same time, political developments in the Mount Kenya region, widely regarded as one of President Ruto's strongest support bases during the 2022 election, suggest that the area's political landscape may be changing.

Reports indicate that leaders from Kirinyaga County are advocating for the region to unite under a single political party ahead of the 2027 General Election to strengthen its influence in determining the country's future leadership.

If such a political realignment gains momentum, it could pose a challenge to President Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as preparations for the next election gather pace.

Earlier reports had also linked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to plans for an alternative political movement following the deterioration of his relationship with President Ruto, although the direction of those efforts remains uncertain.

With the 2027 General Election approaching, it remains to be seen whether these political developments will evolve into a coordinated strategy or remain proposals advanced by a section of regional leaders.
