Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is once again in the spotlight after introducing himself as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement during a Linda Mwananchi rally in Kisii, despite the party's leadership having removed him from the position.
The rally, held on Friday, brought the movement to Kisii Town after two earlier postponements.
Sifuna's continued use of the title comes days after ODM's National Executive Committee endorsed his removal for a second time this year, following recommendations from the party's Internal Dispute Resolution Committee.
The party maintained that the process followed its constitution and that Sifuna effectively ceased to hold the office once the NEC adopted the findings against him.
Sifuna has rejected the ouster, describing it as unprocedural and a repeat of an earlier attempt in February that was later overturned in court.
His legal team has said it will once again challenge the decision, arguing that his rights were violated when the disciplinary process proceeded without his input.
During the Kisii rally, Sifuna was joined by other Linda Mwananchi leaders as the movement continued its tour of the country.
The group has already held similar rallies in counties including Busia, Kitengela, Kakamega, Narok, Mombasa and Thika, positioning itself as a rallying point for ODM members opposed to the party's cooperation with President William Ruto's administration.
His decision to keep referring to himself as Secretary General has fueled fresh debate online, with Kenyans divided over whether he still holds any authority to use the title.
ODM has maintained that Catherine Omanyo now serves as the party's acting Secretary General following his removal.
