President William Ruto has launched a sharp rebuttal against key opposition figures, signaling escalating political tensions in Kenya.
Speaking during a development tour in Nandi County, the Head of State criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, accusing them of spreading propaganda and inciting unrest.
Ruto’s remarks come in the wake of the recently passed Finance Bill 2026, which has sparked heated debate across the political divide.
Defending the legislation, the President dismissed claims that it introduces new taxes, instead asserting that it aims to strengthen critical sectors such as healthcare and agriculture.
In a particularly pointed attack, Ruto took aim at Gachagua, questioning his political standing and warning him against underestimating the current administration.
He also challenged Kalonzo Musyoka’s legacy, criticizing his long tenure in government while questioning his tangible achievements. Matiang’i was not spared either, with the President raising concerns about his past record in office.
Additionally, Ruto warned against planned protests linked to the anniversary of Gen Z demonstrations, cautioning that violence and destruction of property would not be tolerated.
While acknowledging the deaths recorded during previous protests and promising compensation to affected families, he emphasized the need for peaceful expression.
The President urged Kenyans to reject divisive politics and focus on unity and development. As political rhetoric intensifies, the country appears headed for a period of heightened debate, with both the government and opposition positioning themselves ahead of future engagements.
