Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi has hit out at his UDA colleague Alfred Mutai after a youth and women's empowerment event in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, ended in chaos, leaving three people nursing gunshot wounds.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 19, during a programme that was attended by several leaders allied to Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, among them Sudi.
Trouble reportedly started after supporters of Governor Kihika and those of Mutai clashed at the event. The situation quickly deteriorated, forcing participants to flee as gunshots rented the air.
Three people injured during the confrontation were rushed to Molo Level 4 Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
Videos shared online showed people wearing UDA caps running in different directions as gunshots could be heard in the background.
Speaking after the chaos had subsided and calm returned, an angry Sudi accused Mutai of engaging in reckless politics and warned against actions that could plunge the area into violence similar to that witnessed after the disputed 2007 presidential election.
"We were not born yesterday. The problems we faced in 2007/08 were started by people like this one," Sudi said as he condemned his UDA colleague.
Using unprintable language directed at MP Mutai, Sudi maintained that leaders are free to visit any part of the country and rejected suggestions that some politicians should stay away from Kuresoi.
The Kapsaret lawmaker also accused Mutai of failing to address the challenges facing residents and instead encouraging young people to engage in disruptive activities.
Sudi warned the Kuresoi North MP against involving innocent youths in his political battles, telling him to confront him directly instead. He vowed to return to the constituency and teach Mutai a political lesson.
