Prepare for Heavy Rainfall,” Here Are the Mentioned Regions to Experience Heavy Downpour The Whole of This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an advisory urging residents in several parts of the country to prepare for heavy rainfall over the coming days, warning that some regions are likely to experience intense downpours accompanied by strong winds and possible localized flooding.

According to the advisory, the weather pattern is being influenced by enhanced moisture flow over the region, which is expected to increase cloud formation and trigger prolonged rainfall events in different parts of the country. 

Authorities have called on residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, especially those living in flood-prone and low-lying areas.

Among the regions expected to be most affected are parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley region, sections of Nairobi and surrounding counties, as well as areas in the Coastal strip. 

These regions are likely to experience periods of heavy rainfall, particularly during the afternoon and nighttime hours.

The Meteorological Department has further warned that the Coast region may also experience thunderstorms and strong winds, which could disrupt marine activities and transport. 

In the Lake Victoria Basin, fishermen have been advised to exercise caution due to potentially rough waters and sudden weather changes.

In urban areas such as Nairobi and its environs, residents have been urged to be alert for flash floods, traffic disruptions, and possible drainage blockages, which are common during heavy rainfall seasons. 

Motorists have also been advised to drive carefully, avoid waterlogged roads, and stay updated on weather alerts.

County disaster management teams have been placed on standby to respond to any emergencies that may arise. 

The public has been encouraged to clear drainage systems around their homes, avoid sheltering under trees during thunderstorms, and secure loose objects that may be blown away by strong winds.

Farmers have also been advised to take advantage of the rains by preparing their fields, while also safeguarding stored crops from water damage.

The weather department has emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring of official updates, noting that rainfall intensity and distribution may vary across regions.

As the country enters a wetter phase, authorities continue to urge preparedness and caution, stressing that early action can help reduce the impact of extreme weather conditions on lives and property.
