Speaking during on Thursday, June 3, 2026, the DCP's party leader claimed that President William Ruto’s plan to remove him from office was conceived long before the 2022 General Election.

In an interview , he said that Dr Ruto treated their political partnership as a mere strategic political vehicle meant to harvest votes from the Mt Kenya region to boost his chances of securing 2022 presidential victory.

"We used to pretend we were together at functions, but we weren't anymore. The decision to hound me out of office was made before we were elected, and I realized it after a while," Gachagua explained.

Gachagua stated that he realized that there was a well oiled secret effort by Dr William Ruto and Kindiki to remove him from office, despite the two leaders presenting a united front during the campaign and after taking office.

“In his heart, he wanted Kindiki to be the deputy president, but he observed and noted that Kindiki had no capacity or influence to gather the mountain region’s votes.

On the other hand, he saw that Gachagua had the ability and the capacity to gather the mountain votes to help him become president,” he stated
