Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has declared the maximum number of years Head of State His Excellency Dr William Ruto is allowed by the Kenyan Constitution to hold that coveted highest office in the land.
DP Kithure Kindiki has articulated that the promulgated 2010 Constitution limits the Head of State to maximum of two term in office with each term being a five-year term period.
The Deputy President compared the current constitution with the old one, articulating that the previous one did not a specified presidential term limit while the current one set clear guidelines on the specific maximum period an individual can hold the office of the presidency.
The Deputy President divulged that the pivotal reason the second president of the Republic of Kenya, the Late Mzee Daniel Arap Moi was the Head of State for a time period of 24 years was basically due to lack of a specified presidential term limit in the old constitution.
DP Kindiki articulated that the specified presidential term limits in the current constitution must be respected and followed to the letter by any person who is elected into the office of the presidency.
"The old constitution did not have term limits. That's why you saw Mzee Moi was here for 24 hours, 24 years," Deputy President Kithure Kindiki stated.
