"You'll Only Be President In 2057 After I've Served For Two Terms" Ruto's CS Hits Back At Babu Owino

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi yesterday shared a light moment with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino during a public meeting held to collect views on the proposed 2026 Finance Bill.

The meeting, which brought together leaders and members of the public, was meant to discuss ideas on taxes and government spending.

However, it briefly became lively after Mbadi jokingly responded to comments made by Babu Owino.

Mbadi playfully told the MP that although he has ambitions of becoming president, he still has a lot to learn about national finances and government accounts.

He jokingly added that Babu Owino could become president in the year 2057, after Mbadi himself had served as president for ten years.

The remarks caused laughter among those present, as both leaders appeared relaxed and in good spirits during the exchange.

The Finance CS also joked that even if Babu Owino becomes president in future, he would still need to appoint a skilled accountant as Finance Cabinet Secretary to properly manage the country’s money.

Many people at the meeting took the exchange as friendly political banter rather than a serious disagreement. The light moment briefly entertained the audience before the discussions continued.

Babu Owino, who is known for his bold political style and strong opinions, has in recent times spoken openly about his political ambitions and government accountability.

Mbadi, on the other hand, is one of the key officials handling Kenya’s national budget and economic planning.

The comments quickly spread online, with Kenyans reacting in different ways on social media.

Some people found the jokes funny and refreshing, saying they showed leaders can also interact casually during serious discussions.

Despite the humour, the main purpose of the meeting remained the same: collecting public views on the 2026 Finance Bill and how it may affect ordinary citizens.
