"We Are Heading In The Wrong Direction" Olekina Warns Kenyans Over Rising National Crisis

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has raised concern over the country’s preparedness for possible extreme weather linked to a developing El Niño season.

In a strongly worded message, the senator warned that Kenya risks focusing too heavily on early political campaigns while ignoring threats that could directly affect millions of people across the country.

Olekina noted that discussions around the 2027 General Election have already taken centre stage in public debate, yet urgent matters such as disaster planning, drainage systems, food security, and emergency response continue to receive little attention.

He cautioned that heavy rains, floods, and landslides could cause widespread destruction if authorities fail to act in time.

The senator urged both national and county leaders to shift attention toward prevention measures before the situation worsens.

According to him, preparation today could save lives, protect homes, and reduce economic losses in vulnerable regions.

His remarks come at a time when climate concerns are increasingly becoming part of national conversations, especially after recent seasons of destructive floods in several parts of the country.

Olekina argued that leadership should place public safety ahead of political rivalry, saying the country cannot afford to repeat past mistakes when warning signs are already visible.
