“Sometimes I Returned Home With Almost Nothing” — Ugandan Mother Opens Up About the Harsh Reality of Poverty and Daily Struggle

My name is Nalongo Sarah, a woman from Mbarara, Uganda, and I want to share my story to encourage people who are struggling financially and have lost hope in life.

Some years back, life was extremely difficult for me. I survived by selling charcoal on the roadside under the hot sun every day just to feed my children and pay rent. The business was very hard and the profits were too small.

Sometimes I would spend the whole day sitting by the roadside and return home with almost nothing. I struggled to pay school fees, buy food, and take care of basic family needs.

Many people looked down on me because of the kind of work I was doing, and deep inside, I felt stuck in poverty with no clear future.

As time went on, the stress became too much. I worked tirelessly every day, yet my life remained the same. I watched other people progress while I continued struggling to survive.
