New details have emerged after a Bungoma deputy principal died in a lodging after checking in with a secret lover.
The widow of Caleb Wekesa has spoken publicly for the first time, recounting the painful moment she was directed to a mortuary instead of a hospital, where she made a heartbreaking discovery on her husband's body.
According to the widow, she and Wekesa had been married for 20 years and were raising four children together, including a breastfeeding infant.
She said she received an urgent call asking her to rush to the hospital, only to later learn that her husband had already died.
Upon arriving at the mortuary, she was met with a devastating sight.
She found his body bearing a note indicating that he had been declared dead on arrival, a moment she described as deeply painful for her family.
Wekesa, who served as the deputy principal of St Cecilia Misikhu Girls Secondary School in Webuye, died in the early hours of May 24 after being rushed to hospital from a lodging in the town.
Police reports show that the educator had spent the evening of May 23 in the company of a 28-year-old woman.
The pair reportedly visited several entertainment spots before checking into a hotel shortly before midnight.
Investigators stated that at around 12.20am, Wekesa suddenly complained of feeling unwell while inside the room.
The woman is said to have alerted hotel staff after noticing his condition worsening.
Hotel employees reportedly found him foaming at the mouth and immediately arranged for him to be taken to Calvary Hospital in Webuye.
He was later transferred to Webuye Sub County Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
Detectives from Webuye Police Station have classified the incident as a suspected murder case and have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
The woman who was with him at the time was taken into custody to assist investigators.
