Political activist Nuru Okanga has sparked fresh political debate after suggesting that a powerful alliance of opposition-linked leaders could pose a serious challenge to President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an online discussion that has since circulated widely on social media, Okanga mentioned a possible combination of several outspoken politicians, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Senator John Methu, former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
“Imagine the combination of Gachagua, Methu, and Malala, Sifuna, Babu. They will really give Ruto a tough time,” Okanga said.
His remarks come amid increasing political realignments and growing speculation about possible coalitions that could emerge before the next election cycle.
In recent months, several leaders who were once closely associated with the Kenya Kwanza administration have publicly criticised the government, fueling rumours of shifting alliances behind the scenes.
Political observers say such comments reflect the rising political temperatures in the country as leaders begin consolidating regional support and testing public reaction.
While no official coalition has been announced involving the leaders mentioned by Okanga, their names continue to dominate national political discussions due to their influence among different voter groups.
Supporters of President Ruto have dismissed the remarks, insisting that the Head of State still enjoys strong grassroots support across the country despite mounting criticism from opponents.
Meanwhile, opposition supporters have welcomed the idea of a broader alliance, arguing that a united front could reshape the country’s political direction ahead of 2027.
The comments have continued to trend online, with Kenyans debating whether such a coalition would be politically possible or simply another early-election conversation as the race toward 2027 slowly gathers momentum.
