Meet Nyaga Karanja: The Lawyer Who Married Musalia Mudavadi’s Daughter in a High-Profile Wedding

Nyaga Karanja has recently attracted national attention following his marriage to Maryanne Mudavadi, the daughter of Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. 

The union, marked by glamorous ceremonies and high-level political attendance, has placed him firmly in the public spotlight.

A Nairobi-based advocate of the High Court, Nyaga Karanja currently serves as the head of the corporate and commercial department at KNG&CO Advocates LLP. 

His legal practice focuses on banking and finance law, corporate transactions, and dispute resolution involving major institutions in Kenya.

Beyond his professional work, Karanja is highly educated, holding a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi. 

He also earned a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Leeds and later pursued a PhD in Public Policy at the University of Nairobi, strengthening his academic and professional profile in law and governance.

His legal career has also seen him take part in major national matters. Notably, he was among the petitioners involved in the 2021 Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional challenge, a landmark case that shaped political and legal discourse in the country.

Karanja’s wedding to Maryanne Mudavadi drew significant public and media attention due to its high-profile nature. 

The celebrations included traditional ceremonies such as the Kikuyu Kwara rutara and the Ruracio, which were held in Vihiga before culminating in a church wedding at St. Austin’s Catholic Church.

The ceremony was attended by several senior political leaders, including President William Ruto and other top government officials, reflecting the strong political and social connections surrounding the union.

Since the wedding, Nyaga Karanja has increasingly become a subject of public interest, not only because of his marriage into one of Kenya’s influential political families but also due to speculation about his future ambitions. 

Some observers believe his growing visibility could eventually pave the way for a possible entry into politics, although he has not publicly declared any political intentions.
