John Methu has pledged to ensure that the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) wins the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, describing the contest as a major test of the party’s strength ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during Rigathi Gachagua’s tour of the United Kingdom on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the outspoken Nyandarua senator assured the former deputy president that the seat was a must-win for the party and that he was ready to mobilize all available resources to secure victory.
“I am back at home, and together with Wanjiku Muhia, we will work and make sure that we deliver the Ol Kalou seat,” Methu declared to enthusiastic supporters during the event.
The by-election has attracted national attention as it is expected to provide an early indication of the political influence of Gachagua’s newly formed DCP party, especially in the Mt Kenya region where the former deputy president continues to enjoy significant support.
Methu, one of Gachagua’s closest political allies, said the people of Ol Kalou understand the importance of the election and would not disappoint the party.

According to him, a DCP victory would send a strong political message and mark the beginning of President William Ruto’s decline in the region.
He said winning the seat would be the first concrete step toward achieving the opposition’s “Wantam” campaign, a slogan popular among critics of the current administration who are determined to ensure Ruto serves only one term in office.
The senator’s remarks came just a day after Eric Wamumbi suggested that if DCP fails to capture the seat, he would personally escort Gachagua back to the ruling UDA party and persuade him to support President Ruto once again.
Meanwhile, Gachagua used his UK visit to appeal to Kenyans in the diaspora to contribute financially to the campaign of DCP candidate Samuel Kamau Ngotho.
Addressing supporters in London, Gachagua described Ngotho as a loyal former aide who worked in his office when he served as deputy president.

In a notable outcome, even the third-placed candidate in the DCP primaries, Peter Karanja, garnered more votes than the winner of the UDA nominations.
UDA candidate Samuel Muchina secured 3,221 votes to clinch his party’s ticket. UDA leaders attributed the lower turnout to the fact that the primaries were held on a weekday.
Veronicah Maina maintained that the true test would come on polling day, scheduled for July 14, 2026.
