Tension As Babu Owino Is Forced to Address the Media Following This Alleged Incident in Karen

Political tensions have continued to rise following the eviction row involving former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino publicly defending him.

In a strong statement, Babu argued that Tuju is being treated “unfairly like a stranger” and insisted that he deserves respect as a senior Kenyan and former government official.

The remarks come at a time when Tuju is facing a dispute over his property in Karen, Nairobi, where reports indicate a heavy police presence outside the premises at Dari Business Park.

The situation has sparked debate online and within political circles, with supporters calling for fairness and due process in handling the matter.

The alleged incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday night into Saturday morning (around 3am on March 14), when more than 50 police officers arrived in at least seven vehicles some unmarked and took control of the multi-billion-shilling Dari Business Park along Ngong Road.

According to Tuju, the officers forced out his guards and employees, locked the main gate, and occupied the premises without presenting any documentation.

Speaking from outside the locked gate in a widely circulated video, the embattled former CS declared his defiance:

“I’m not going to leave this place; they have to kill me first because they’ve no court order. It is not lawful for them to come to my premises at this time and force me out… This is not law, and if it is law, it is the law of the jungle.”

He further alleged the operation was ordered “from so high up,” with some officers masking their faces when photographed.

The raid is the latest escalation in a protracted legal battle dating back to 2015. Tuju’s company, Dari Limited, had secured a loan of approximately Sh943.9 million from the East African Development Bank (EADB) for the commercial project.

The bank later accused the company of defaulting, leading to repeated auction attempts. A Court of Appeal hearing on the matter is scheduled for Monday.
