Heavy Rain Expected in Most Parts of Kenya Starting on This Date as Kenya Met Issues Warning

 

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an important weather advisory warning residents of Nairobi, Kiambu, and neighboring counties to brace for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected throughout the week. 

According to the department, the forecasted conditions are likely to affect daily activities, transport, and livelihoods, prompting the need for heightened preparedness among residents.

Meteorologists attribute the anticipated weather pattern to the movement of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), a major climatic system that influences rainfall across equatorial regions. 

As the ITCZ shifts over central Kenya, it is drawing in moist air masses that, combined with rising warm air, are creating favorable conditions for widespread rain showers and thunderstorm activity. 

These conditions are expected to occur intermittently, with some periods of intense rainfall.

Residents of Nairobi and Kiambu have been advised to remain alert, particularly those living in low-lying or flood-prone areas. 

The heavy downpours may result in localized flooding, poor visibility, and waterlogging on roads. 

Motorists are urged to drive carefully on slippery roads, avoid flooded routes, and allow extra travel time to reduce the risk of accidents. 

Pedestrians should also plan their movements carefully to minimize disruption caused by the wet weather.

While the rains pose certain risks, they are expected to benefit the agricultural sector. 

Farmers in the affected counties may experience improved soil moisture and favorable conditions for crop growth. 

However, they are cautioned to monitor their farms closely, as strong winds and thunderstorms could cause damage to crops and farm structures.
