A member of Bunge la Mwananchi has sparked a fresh debate inside the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after claiming that Ruth Odinga is now the biggest enemy of the party.
The sentiments come just a day after Ruth Odinga strongly criticised ODM’s youthful leaders, warning them against attacking senior party figures, including party leader Oburu Odinga.
Speaking during a public forum in Nairobi, the Bunge la Mwananchi member accused Ruth Odinga of attempting to silence young leaders instead of supporting the party’s renewal.
He argued that ODM’s strength has always depended on open dialogue and generational balance, not intimidation.
According to him, the party’s future lies in embracing youthful leadership rather than defending what he described as an outdated political hierarchy.
He maintained that ODM needs to undergo a full generational transition if it intends to remain relevant, especially as national politics continue to shift toward younger voices.
He insisted that young leaders within the party have a right to question, challenge, and demand accountability from senior officials, including Oburu Odinga.
The member further noted that the country is moving into a political era where citizens expect fresh ideas and modern strategies, something he believes can only be championed by young politicians.
His remarks add to the growing tensions within ODM, where internal discussions around succession, youth involvement, and the party’s direction have intensified in recent months.
Ruth Odinga had earlier cautioned young ODM leaders to show respect to long-serving figures who, she said, have sacrificed for the party’s stability.
However, the Bunge la Mwananchi member insisted that loyalty should not be used as a shield to hide weaknesses or block legitimate criticism.
He urged ODM delegates to prioritise a leadership structure that empowers young people, arguing that the party can only reclaim its former strength if it embraces generational change and allows youthful leaders to steer its future.
