Why Kalonzo Accompanied Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta to Nigeria

Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday, December 31, accompanied retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to Lagos, Nigeria, for the prestigious Future Africa Leaders Awards ceremony.

According to information shared on the former president’s official X account, Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Lagos ahead of the continental event that supports young Africans who have demonstrated exceptional leadership by positively impacting their generation through education, youth empowerment, and mentorship.

Kenyatta is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the ceremony and announce the winner of the highly coveted Star Prize, the event’s top recognition. Kalonzo Musyoka was part of the delegation accompanying him.

Additional details from a press statement issued by the Wiper Patriotic Front indicate that Kalonzo travelled to Nigeria the same morning to attend the awards as an honoured guest.

The statement notes that the invitation was extended by the organisers, led by African Leaders Awards founder Chikki Onigbanjo, in recognition of Musyoka’s distinguished leadership and recent international accolades.

The ceremony is being held today, December 31, 2025, at the LoveWorld Nation Arena, Aseese Base, in Lagos.

The Wiper leader’s participation, according to the statement, underscores his continued commitment to pan-African unity, youth empowerment, and the promotion of leadership excellence across the continent.

The press statement further highlighted that Musyoka was recently honoured as the recipient of the London Political Summit and Awards 10th Anniversary Africa Political Leader and Personality of the Year Award, a factor cited as contributing to his invitation to the Lagos event.

Kalonzo is expected to return shortly after the ceremony, which brings together leaders and changemakers from across Africa to celebrate the next generation of transformative leadership.
