Former aide to Raila Odinga, Silas Jakakimba, has welcomed a proposal to move the former Prime Minister’s famous 2007 campaign Hummer to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Museum in Bondo.
The plan was revealed by Raila Odinga Junior, who said the family intends to preserve the vehicle as part of Raila’s political legacy following his death.
In a detailed reflection shared on X, Jakakimba described the Hummer as one of the most recognisable symbols of Raila’s 2007 presidential campaign.
He recounted the moment he first encountered the vehicle, saying he immediately saw its potential to redefine the candidate’s public appearances during the heated election season.
According to Jakakimba, the vehicle belonged to a supporter identified only as Bosco, who later donated it to the campaign.
He said he urged the owner to consider allowing Raila to use it, convinced of the strong visual impact it would create on the campaign trail.
“I told him I had a feeling this car had the uniqueness we coveted for Jakom’s campaign appearances,” he recalled.
Jakakimba said the Hummer went on to become a defining feature of ODM’s rallies, reinforcing Raila’s image as a formidable challenger.
He lauded the family’s decision to place the vehicle in the museum, describing it as a fitting tribute to a significant chapter in Kenya’s political history.
He added that preserving the Hummer would help future generations understand the symbolism it carried at a time when Raila was pushing for far-reaching governance reforms.
“It reflects a rich history to Baba’s efforts to transform and turn around the governance architecture of the Republic of Kenya,” he noted.
