Political analyst Professor Herman Manyora has sparked fresh debate after suggesting that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino could be emerging as the next dominant political figure in the Luo Nyanza region.
Speaking during an exclusive television interview, Professor Manyora said Babu’s growing influence across several counties in the region is no coincidence, noting that his reception at public events has been remarkable.
He argued that Babu Owino possesses the attributes needed to carry forward the political legacy of the late Raila Odinga — energy, courage, and a strong connection with the grassroots.
“Babu Owino represents the future of Luo Nyanza leadership. He is youthful, fearless, and understands the struggles of the common people,” Manyora remarked.
He added that the MP’s rise should be closely watched, as his appeal among the youth could reshape the political dynamics of Nyanza ahead of 2027.
Echoing his sentiments, former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba also lauded Babu Owino’s growing popularity, describing him as one of the few leaders who can genuinely mobilize young people.
Orwoba noted that Babu’s ability to connect with a disillusioned youthful electorate — tired of recycled political figures — gives him an edge in future contests.
Observers believe that the Embakasi East legislator’s sharp intellect, fiery oratory skills, and consistent advocacy for education and social justice have endeared him to a new generation of voters.
As Luo Nyanza begins to imagine its political future beyond Raila Odinga, Professor Manyora’s remarks have reignited the question of succession — and whether Babu Owino could indeed be the next influential voice to define the region’s direction in national politics.
