Big Blow To Ruto’s Government As Oburu Odinga Boldly Questions Dismissal of Hundreds of County Workers

Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has raised concerns over the recent dismissal of hundreds of county workers, questioning the legality and motive behind the move.

The senator expressed disappointment at what he termed as a politically motivated purge targeting employees perceived to be aligned with certain leaders.

Speaking during a public function in Bondo, Oburu said that the abrupt termination of county staff had created unnecessary tension among residents and disrupted the smooth delivery of services.

He noted that while restructuring and accountability were necessary, the process should follow due procedure and respect the rights of the affected employees.

“The county government must act within the law. You cannot just wake up and send people home without proper justification or following established regulations,” Oburu stated. “These are people with families who depend on their jobs. Such decisions must be humane and transparent.”

The senator called for an independent audit to establish whether the layoffs were in line with employment laws and the County Public Service regulations. He also urged the county administration to engage with relevant stakeholders, including trade unions, before making drastic decisions that affect livelihoods.

Oburu further warned against using job dismissals as a political weapon, emphasizing that the county’s focus should remain on development and service delivery rather than personal vendettas or political alignments.

Residents of Siaya have echoed the senator’s sentiments, calling for fairness and justice for those who lost their jobs. Several civil servants who were affected by the dismissals have since threatened to seek legal redress.

The county government, however, has defended the move, stating that the dismissals were part of a wider plan to streamline operations, eliminate ghost workers, and enhance efficiency in service delivery.
