The Jubilee Party has officially appointed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its Deputy Party Leader and endorsed him as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
The announcement was made on Thursday, October 30, 2025, after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting chaired virtually by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, the party’s leader.
Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni confirmed the endorsement, stating that the party had received and approved Matiang’i’s application to run for the top seat under Jubilee’s banner.
“We have formally accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag,” Kioni said.

“We have appointed Dr. Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader going forward.”
The NEC also discussed grassroots reorganization and revitalization of the party, including plans to open new branches and recruit new members across the country.
Additionally, other vacant party positions were filled. Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was named National Assembly Whip, while Senator James Lomenen was appointed Senate Whip.
The decision solidifies months of speculation that Jubilee would rally behind Matiang’i, who resigned from his position at the World Bank Latin America office to focus fully on politics.
During the National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on September 26, 2025, both Uhuru and Matiang’i appeared together — a move that signaled a smooth succession and endorsement plan within the party.
Matiang’i, who has never held an elective position, is now seen as the party’s best hope to restore its former dominance ahead of 2027.

He is expected to represent Jubilee in the emerging United Opposition alliance, which aims to challenge President William Ruto’s UDA-led government.
