Speculation continues to swirl around former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political future, with reports suggesting he may soon part ways with Kalonzo Musyoka and the rest of the United Opposition coalition.
The growing rumours have sparked fresh debate within Kenya’s political circles, as Gachagua’s next move could significantly alter the country’s opposition landscape.
Sources close to the former Deputy President indicate that he has been increasingly uncomfortable with the coalition’s direction and leadership style. Insiders claim that Gachagua feels sidelined in key decision-making processes and believes his influence within the United Opposition has been steadily diminishing.
The speculation comes barely months after Gachagua joined forces with Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa to form the United Opposition, a political alliance meant to challenge President William Ruto’s administration.
At the time, the move was seen as a major step in uniting various political factions against the government. However, cracks have recently begun to show, with disagreements emerging over strategy and leadership hierarchy.
Political analysts argue that Gachagua’s possible departure could weaken the opposition, particularly in the Mount Kenya region, where he still enjoys considerable support. Others believe his exit could pave the way for a realignment of political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
Neither Gachagua nor Kalonzo has publicly addressed the rumours, but the silence has only fueled speculation. If the reports prove true, Gachagua’s move could trigger yet another wave of political realignments, underscoring the unpredictable nature of Kenyan politics.
For now, all eyes remain on Gachagua, as the country waits to see whether he will stay loyal to the United Opposition or chart his own political course once again.
