Political analyst and commentator Prof. Herman Manyora has weighed in on President William Ruto’s decision to host thousands of private security officers at State House on August 6, 2026.
During the meeting, Ruto directed government agencies to stop calling them “watchmen” or “guards,” labelling the terms colonial relics, and announced wage reviews, career pathways and closer cooperation with police.
Manyora argues the move echoes the same strategic missteps that led to the crushing UDA defeat in the Ol Kalou by-election.
In that contest, heavy deployment of state resources, project launches and handouts failed to deliver votes; the opposition-linked candidate secured around 85 percent while the UDA contender managed only about 13 percent.
