However, despite Machakos being a traditional stronghold for Musyoka, President William Ruto is likely to secure a significant number of votes in the county during the upcoming General Election.
In the last polls, Kalonzo Musyoka supported Raila Odinga’s presidency. Despite this opposition unity, William Ruto still managed to win 101,437 votes in Machakos, while Odinga garnered 304,830 votes. This outcome gave Ruto 24.7 percent of the total votes in the county.
Because no major defections have been witnessed from his camp since then, the President has likely retained this core supporter base.
The ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance also established a strong legislative footing by winning two parliamentary seats in that hotly contested election.
Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka Musau was elected on a UDA ticket, and Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule Mutiso won under the Maendeleo Chap Chap party banner.
Both members of parliament are still loyal to their respective parties and actively back President William Ruto’s re-election bid. They are expected to successfully mobilize their grassroots supporters behind the Head of State.
Furthermore, prominent Machakos heavyweights have thrown their full political weight behind the President.
Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama are actively campaigning for the administration.
Due to their immense local influence, these two leaders could easily sway a significant number of undecided Machakos residents to cast their ballots in favor of Ruto.
While the opposition candidate is still mathematically favored to beat Ruto in the final Machakos county tally, the President is highly likely to secure more than a quarter of the total votes in a region historically considered an exclusive Kalonzo Musyoka stronghold.
