A politician allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement has boldly declared that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is the coalition's preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, insisting that he has what it takes to transform Kenya despite criticism from his opponents.
Speaking during a political gathering, the leader dismissed claims that Sifuna lacks the financial muscle to mount a successful presidential campaign.
He argued that leadership should be measured by integrity, vision and the ability to deliver results rather than personal wealth.
The politician further launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto's administration, claiming that its senior leaders have accumulated more than 100 years of combined experience in public service but have little to show in terms of improving the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
According to him, the country's challenges require fresh leadership that is committed to addressing the high cost of living, unemployment and governance issues.
He expressed confidence that Sifuna represents a new generation of leaders capable of delivering meaningful reforms.
The remarks come as the Linda Mwananchi team continues to distance itself from the decision by sections of the ODM leadership to work with President Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration.
The faction is led by Senator Edwin Sifuna and includes Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and other ODM leaders who have openly opposed the party's cooperation with the government.
The group has maintained that ODM should remain a strong opposition party to hold the government accountable and defend the interests of Kenyans.
As political realignments gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, the Linda Mwananchi faction is positioning itself as an alternative voice within ODM, with its leaders promising to champion accountability, good governance and policies aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.
