Political Setback for Ruto as Another UDA Mt. Kenya Governor Sparks Exit Speculation Ahead of 2027

Fresh political speculation has emerged surrounding following the circulation of a viral video in which the Kiambu governor addressed growing questions about his political future ahead of Kenya's 2027 General Election.

Although Wamatangi did not announce any plans to leave the ruling (UDA), his remarks have sparked widespread debate across social media and political circles.

In the video, the governor said he is closely monitoring the country's evolving political landscape but stressed that his immediate focus remains on delivering the promises he made to the people of Kiambu.

He maintained that improving service delivery and implementing development projects are the key priorities of his administration, declining to give any indication of his long-term political plans.

His comments come at a time when political realignments continue to reshape the Mt. Kenya region, with several leaders being linked to emerging alliances ahead of the next general election.

As a result, Wamatangi's remarks have fueled speculation that he could eventually align himself with former Deputy President and the (DCP). Some online users have even suggested that the governor could seek a second term under the party's banner.

Despite the growing speculation, there has been no official confirmation to support those claims. Wamatangi has neither announced his resignation from UDA nor declared membership in DCP.

His recent remarks have instead been interpreted differently by political observers, supporters and critics, with many agreeing that they leave room for multiple interpretations.

As one of the most influential governors in the Mt. Kenya region, any future political decision by Wamatangi is expected to have a significant impact on regional politics. Until he makes an official declaration, however, any reports linking him to a political shift remain speculative rather than confirmed.
