Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Wycliffe Oparanya has alleged that individuals associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement approached him with a proposal to weaken the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
He said he rejected the proposal and reaffirmed his commitment to the party and the political legacy of the late Raila Odinga.
Oparanya made the remarks on Sunday, July 26, 2026, while addressing an ODM grassroots meeting in Malava Constituency. According to him, people linked to the movement attempted to persuade him to abandon ODM and participate in efforts that could create divisions within the party.
The Cabinet Secretary did not disclose the identities of those who allegedly contacted him or publicly provide evidence to support the claim. However, he maintained that he immediately turned down the proposal because leaving ODM was not an option for him.
Oparanya said maintaining unity within ODM was important, particularly in honour of Raila, whom he credited with establishing a powerful political movement that has played a significant role in shaping Kenya's political landscape.
