Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei came out swinging on Friday, directing four stinging labels at the 40 Members of Parliament who voted against the Finance Bill 2026/27 in Thursday's National Assembly division.
In a post on his X account, Cherargei called them traitors, betrayers, cowards, and saboteurs, accusing them of rejecting a bill without reading its contents.
"The raising of national revenue through passage of the Finance Bill 2026 is a patriotic duty, and the members of National Assembly who voted against the bill are traitors, betrayers, cowards and saboteurs of national development," he wrote.
The Senator argued that passing a revenue bill is not optional for any legislator who takes national development seriously. He said opposing it without engaging its contents was an embarrassment to the institution of Parliament.
Cherargei also served notice to opposition MPs, telling them their energy was better spent scrutinising the Ruto administration than blocking government revenue measures.
"The united opposition MNAs need to up their game as they prepare to oversight President Ruto's administration for the next six years to come," he said.
Thursday's vote ended with 122 MPs backing the Finance Bill and 40 voting against it. The same 40 names have attracted starkly different reactions since the result was announced.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called them heroes who chose Kenyans over political pressure. Cherargei on Friday called them an embarrassment who acted out of ignorance.
