The tragic incident occurred at about 2.40 pm on Sunday at Sameta Lodge along the Kisii-Kilgoris Road in Gucha Sub-county.

The teenager had reportedly visited the facility with relatives before the incident unfolded. According to police, one of her relatives noticed that the girl had suddenly disappeared while they were swimming.

After searching around the pool, she found the teenager lying unconscious at the bottom of the six-foot-deep swimming pool.

The relative immediately raised the alarm, prompting the pool attendant to dive into the water and pull the girl out. The attendant administered first aid before rushing her to Lenmek Hospital for emergency treatment.

Due to the seriousness of her condition, the girl was later referred to Gucha Sub County Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
