A new political controversy has emerged within Kenya’s opposition ranks after Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi claimed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is no longer affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Addressing a political meeting on Tuesday, June 24, Atandi alleged that Sifuna had been suspended from the party led by Raila Odinga, raising questions about his political standing.
According to Atandi, Sifuna is currently without a political party following the alleged suspension. He further questioned how the Linda Mwananchi movement intends to challenge for power if one of its prominent figures lacks party backing.
The remarks come amid growing political activity as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election. They are also likely to intensify discussions about ODM’s future and the emergence of new political movements seeking to reshape Kenya’s political landscape.
Atandi’s reference to the Linda Mwananchi movement adds fresh attention to the group, which has recently gained traction among sections of the opposition. Its supporters have been advocating for increased public participation in governance and broader institutional reforms.
The comments are expected to draw reactions from Sifuna and his supporters, who have remained outspoken on issues such as governance, economic management, and the country's leadership direction.
The political exchange comes as the country prepares for the June 25 demonstrations planned in several towns. Leaders from different political camps have continued trading accusations and rallying supporters behind competing agendas.
With the 2027 election slowly coming into focus, statements from influential figures like Atandi are expected to further heighten political debate as parties and emerging movements work to strengthen their support bases nationwide.
