Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosted grassroots leaders and opinion formers at his Wamunyoro residence on Saturday continuing his consultative meetings, with prominent Nyandarua blogger Alex Muraguri among the latest high-profile figures to join his Democracy for Citizens Party from UDA.
Gachagua shared the meeting on his X account saying he had hosted grassroots and opinion leaders from Laikipia County at Wamunyoro.
He described the cause he leads as deeply consultative saying the people give political direction to their leaders rather than the other way around.
He credited the wisdom and guidance he receives from such meetings as central to his vision of forming the 6th Administration.
His Facebook page drew tens of thousands of interactions and his voice carried real weight in shaping local opinion.
He cited UDA's lack of a clear plan and what he described as wasteful use of resources in the Ol Kalou by-election campaign as his reasons for leaving.
He declared that the people on the ground had already made their decision and said he would not sell his community for a bowl of beans. He has since joined DCP's candidate Hon. Kamau Ngotho's campaign team and is actively mobilising support village by village.
The defection comes as the Ol Kalou by-election scheduled for July 16 intensifies. The seat fell vacant following the death of MP David Kiaraho. DCP dominated the nominations exercise drawing over 23,000 voters against UDA's 8,200 and recent polls show DCP's candidate holding a clear lead.
For Gachagua Muraguri's arrival adds digital firepower and local credibility to DCP's campaign in a county that matters deeply to his political project.
Losing the blogger who championed UDA's message in Nyandarua is a symbolic blow the ruling party will find difficult to dismiss as the by-election countdown continues.
