Matiang’i Alleges Secret Fundraisers to Punish MPs Supporting Him

Jubilee Party presidential candidate Dr. Fred Matiang’i has called on government leaders and senior state officers to stop targeting Members of Parliament linked to his political camp.

Speaking during a visit to Kitutu Chache South on June 11, 2026, Matiang’i claimed that some leaders are mobilizing resources to politically fight MPs who have openly declared support for him ahead of the next General Election.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary singled out Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi and Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo as some of the leaders facing pressure because of their association with him.

The two lawmakers were elected on an ODM ticket but have recently shown support for Matiang’i’s presidential bid.

While commissioning a new school block in the constituency, Matiang’i defended the MPs, saying they have a democratic right to support any leader of their choice without intimidation.

“The Members of Parliament are being fought politically because of associating with me,” Matiang’i said.

“They have a right to support whoever they want. Osero is my Member of Parliament. Do you want him not to support me?” he posed.

Matiang’i said he does not hold grudges against leaders who choose to support rival presidential candidates, insisting that politics should not divide the Gusii community.

He urged leaders from the region to put aside political differences and work together for the benefit of the people.

According to him, endless political fights only slow down development and create unnecessary divisions among residents.

“I appeal to Gusii leaders to stop fighting each other and instead unite and work together to benefit the community regardless of their political party affiliations,” he stated.
