Former Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i has received another endorsement ahead of the 2027 General Election after Mukurweini MP Anthony Kibagendi publicly declared his support for the former Interior Cabinet Secretary's presidential ambitions.
In a statement shared on social media, Kibagendi said his backing for Matiang'i is based on the former Cabinet Secretary's leadership record rather than ethnic considerations.
The first-term MP, who is associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, described Matiang'i as a disciplined, results-oriented leader whose public service record demonstrates competence, accountability, and professionalism.
Matiang'i previously served in several key ministries, including the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, the Ministry of Education, and later the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination.
During his tenure in the Education Ministry, he oversaw reforms aimed at strengthening the credibility of national examinations, while his time at the Interior Ministry was marked by efforts to improve security coordination and public administration.
Kibagendi argued that Kenya's current economic and governance challenges require leaders with proven administrative experience, integrity, and the ability to implement practical solutions rather than relying on political rhetoric.
He further maintained that leadership should be determined by competence and performance instead of ethnic arithmetic or regional voting blocs.
The legislator encouraged Kenyans to evaluate Matiang'i based on his record in public office, saying his achievements speak for themselves.
As political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 General Election, endorsements from elected leaders are expected to intensify, with Matiang'i increasingly emerging as one of the names being mentioned in discussions surrounding the country's next presidential contest.
