Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has heavily condemned the sudden arrest and detention of Chief Justice Emeritus David Maraga, terming it a direct assault on the Kenyan Constitution.
The dynamic political atmosphere became even more intense as this dramatic arrest unfolded on the very same day the country was locked in anticipation over a major ruling involving Rigathi Gachagua.
In a detailed official statement shared online, Musyoka expressed his deep anger over how the former head of the judiciary was handled.
Maraga, who now leads the United Green Movement and is a presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, was arrested at the Nairobi National Park alongside nine other citizens while exercising their constitutional rights.
The retired Chief Justice flatly refused to walk free alone, boldly declaring that he would not leave the cells until every single one of the citizens arrested alongside him was released unconditionally.
Musyoka highly praised this rare show of solidarity, stating that Maraga’s choice to stay behind bars with ordinary Kenyans perfectly highlights his true character.
The evening message calls on the Inspector General of Police to fully account for the excessive force used against peaceful Kenyans.
Musyoka also demanded that the Cabinet Secretary for Environment appear before Parliament to explain the legal basis for excising protected parklands.
With political temperatures rising by the hour, the opposition chief warned that remaining silent at such a critical moment is nothing short of complicity in breaking the law.
