"Keep Off My Home" – Prominent Politician Warns June 25 Protesters

As Kenya braces for the planned June 25 demonstrations, Murang’a Women Rep Betty Maina has issued a stern warning to protesters, urging them to keep away from her private residence and property.

Speaking amid heightened tension across the country, Maina said she would not tolerate any attempts to vandalize or invade her home, recalling incidents during previous protests when some leaders and public figures reported attacks on their residences and businesses.

Her remarks come as security agencies remain on high alert ahead of the anniversary protests linked to the anti-government demonstrations that shook the country in 2024.

Authorities have warned against destruction of property, while organizers insist that the demonstrations are intended to be peaceful.

Maina expressed concern that some individuals could take advantage of the protests to engage in criminal activities, including looting and destruction of private property.

She emphasized that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to peaceful assembly but said that right should not be used to justify attacks on homes or businesses.

The warning reflects growing anxiety among business owners, politicians, and residents as the country prepares for another day of demonstrations.

In Nairobi and several major towns, some businesses have already scaled down operations or announced temporary closures due to fears of unrest.

Religious leaders, civil society groups, and government officials have continued to appeal for restraint from both protesters and security officers. They have urged all parties to respect the law and avoid actions that could lead to violence.

As June 25 approaches, the focus remains on whether the demonstrations will remain peaceful or escalate into confrontations.

Maina's comments highlight the concerns shared by many Kenyans who support the right to protest but fear a repeat of scenes that previously resulted in property damage and economic losses.

The planned protests are expected to dominate national attention throughout the day.
