Kalonzo Proposes June 25 Be Public Holiday, Tells Kenyans What To Do To186 MPs Who Missed BillVoting

Kalonzo Musyoka used his June 25 statement to push two messages. First a proposal to have June 25 recognised as a public holiday and second a ballot paper message directed at the 186 MPs who missed the Finance Bill vote.

The Wiper leader proposed that June 25 be officially known as Liberation Day, saying the date should permanently be remembered because of its significance in Kenya's recent history.

He also revisited the 186 MPs who did not participate in the Finance Bill vote, saying Kenyans now know where they stood during that period.

According to Kalonzo, voters already have enough information to make future decisions whenever they are presented with ballot papers.

He said Kenyans now know which leaders stood with them and which ones did not, adding that citizens can decide how to respond when they encounter those names in future elections.

Kalonzo also singled out the 40 MPs who opposed the Finance Bill, saying history would remember their actions.

He further referenced the case of Rex Masai, saying questions surrounding his death still need answers.

His main proposal was that June 25 should move beyond an annual remembrance event and instead be formally recognised as Liberation Day.

At the same time, he maintained that Kenyans should use future elections to make their own decisions regarding leaders who were absent when the controversial Finance Bill was being debated.

His message comes as leaders and activist continue to share their messages, proposals and assurances about tomorrow's protest. Most people expecting it be peaceful. Follow us Behind The Headlines for following updates.
