“Is This Really My Brother?” Heartbreak After Missing Activist Davis Lichuma Is Found Horrific

The family of Mathare activist Davis Lichuma has painfully opened up after he was found alive but in critical condition, days after he mysteriously disappeared during the June 25 protests.

Lichuma had gone missing while reportedly on his way to join fellow activists marking the second anniversary of the 2024 Gen Z protests, sparking fear and concern among his family, friends, and fellow human rights campaigners.

According to his brother, Benson Shikala, the family was relieved to learn that he was alive, but the condition in which he was found raised even more questions.

Shikala revealed that Lichuma was found without clothes and appeared severely traumatised, weak, and unable to communicate properly.

“Every time I looked at him, I kept asking myself if it was truly my brother. He could barely speak, and his body showed signs that he had gone through something terrible,” Shikala said.

The family said boda boda riders rescued him and rushed him to the hospital after finding him abandoned by the roadside. However, attempts to gather more information about where he had been found reportedly hit a dead end.

Lichuma is currently receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital, where doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

His case has sparked fresh outrage among activists, with many demanding answers over the rising cases of alleged abductions and enforced disappearances in the country.

Human rights campaigners, including activist , have called for accountability and transparent investigations into the incident.

Former Chief Justice also visited Lichuma in hospital, expressing concern over his condition.

As investigations continue, Kenyans online have continued to demand justice, hoping Lichuma will recover and eventually reveal what happened during his disappearance.
